Saleen is an empath. She feels everything, maybe too much. Her vulnerability makes it easy for her to get hurt. She’s self-sacrificing and loyal. She sees a person through and through, and often predicts what a person may say or do. She does this with such precision, that she’s often called a “psychic”. Saleen can bring anyone back from their sadness by simply listening. While listening, she absorbs their energy.
The other sirens of Mermaid Falls lean on Saleen for emotional support, especially the adolescent ones. Saleen often chooses to see the good in people and encourages them to do the same. She’s helped salvage friendships and settle quarrels. Saleen is loyal to the tailbone and will carry any secret to the grave.
Saleen has the power to control the winds and the tides by tapping into very deep emotions. Saleen pulls these emotions from the collective unconscious of all beings within the dimension. Sadly, when she does this, she sometimes gets pulled into darkness. An event requiring more power can put Saleen into a deeper depression.
Saleen and her cousin Rayne sometimes collaborate to create weather phenomena. For example, Saleen first uses the wind to gather the clouds. Rayne then charges the moisture in the clouds with positive and negative energy; this creates lightning. The cousins, however, should never interfere with the waterfall that eliminates the ships from the threshold of Mermaid Falls. Most ships don’t make it to the bottom safely, and passengers mostly perish before making it.
According to ancient scriptures from the Abandoned Castle, there were a few that survived the plummet through Mermaid Falls. As soon as they reached the Abandoned Castle’s 13th dimension, the siren guards sent the invaders through black holes that carried them into other dimensions still unknown.
To prevent this from happening to others, Saleen does her best to create strong currents that push ships as far away as possible from Mermaid Falls; however, she isn’t always successful, for her powers are very draining and she must rest in between power events. Saleen feels guilt for what happened to The Odyssey – the ship that carried Kaleena’s parents – for she was at a rest interval during the time that the ill-fated ship crossed the threshold of Mermaid Falls.
